And, another month later...

Saturday, July 02, 2016

So, it's been exactly a month since I posted that last blog. I feel so much better than I did a month ago! I have checked in on SP first thing every single day, gotten back up over my goal of exercise minutes per week that I was doing before all these changes in my life came along, AND, best of all, am down 9 pounds!!! I have not been tracking food, even though I know from my past experience how well that works. It takes so much time, and I just don't want to spend my few free minutes doing that. But I have changed some habits that seem to be making a difference.
A few months ago I started drinking coffee again, after years of not. I did this to see if it would help me have less migraines, after I discovered that caffeine was a main ingredient in the Rx my Dr. prescribed. Sure enough, with a couple of cups in the morning and one mid-afternoon, my headaches have practically gone away. This past month I had to take Excedrin Migraine only once, and I was having 2-3 BAD headaches a WEEK before. SO, one of the eating changes I have made is to enjoy my two morning cups of coffee over the first 3 hours or so that I'm up, instead of rushing to get breakfast the minute I get out of bed. I now eat breakfast around 9 or so, after I've spent awhile gardening and mowing and playing outside with my little nephew. Well, when you eat breakfast at 9 or even 10, I find you're not starving for lunch at 11. You can wait till 1 or 1:30. And when you eat lunch that late, and you get a little hungry mid-afternoon, often that cup of coffee will be enough of a snack to keep you satisfied until dinner. If not, a little fruit or handful of cashews will suffice. We usually don't eat dinner till 6:30 now (before "the kids" moved in with us we would eat at 5 or 5:30.) By eating that late I can usually avoid the urge to snack more in the evening because I still feel full and satisfied.
I am 56, and I think pretty much post-menopause, so losing weight is harder now than it used to be, but I still lost 9 pounds in one month, and can now fit into a few other items of clothing, so I feel a lot more comfortable. But mostly I feel better because I feel back in control.
