Big Decision to make

Monday, June 13, 2016

I'm thinking about accepting different work hours at my job. Right now I work 3 8 hour shifts every Friday, Saturday and Sunday 7-3:30. With my job you sometimes get out a hour late depending on the day. I have been thinking about asking for the hours my friend Betty is leaving. Her hours are 7-7:30- 3 12 hour shifts a week but she only works one weekend a month. I would make about the same amount because you get paid more per hour for weekend only package. I would get paid time off and sick pay again which you give up when you work only weekends. I would have 3 weekends off every month which I haven't been off for more then 2 or 3 weekends a year for over 20 years!! I would be working 12 hour shifts again - I do like 8 hour shifts better. With more weekends off I could go to more of my children and grandchildren's special events. I could be involved in more 5 k and 10 k walks which are usually on Saturdays. I could go to church more often. My days off would be more varied so it might be hard to take classes unless I took online classes, I'm not a very decisive person. There are a lot of pros and cons to this decision. Any advice from all my spark friends?

I didn't like 12 hour shifts because after 10 hours I'm tired, physically and mentally. Some of the staff loved it because if gave them more days off.

I would take the new hours. The days are long, but you have so much more free time. emoticon

This isn't an easy decision to make! Would you be able to ask for a trial, say that you try for 1 month for example? Probably not, but I was just wondering...
You mention that your new hours would be "7-7:30- 3" and that these are 12 hour shifts. I don't know how this makes 12 hours though, there must be something I don't understand! Help!
In any case, for me the advantages of the new hours seem quite big, especially that you would be able to attend more of your children and grandchildren events... and I know how much it means to you!
All the best in making your decision, dear Karen! Please keep us informed!

The new hours sound great and like you would have more time for you and those around you :) Unless you have to decide right away, spend a little bit of time before making the decision.
