Game of Thrones and Cheez-Its

Saturday, June 11, 2016

Last night was the end of a relatively rough week for me. Work was incredibly stressful and my personal life suffered a blow. Strangely, my diet didn't take a hit... until last night.

I got home late from working overtime and all I wanted was to get out of myself for a little while. So I fired up the episodes of Game of Thrones I haven't yet watched, poured myself a glass of wine, grabbed a handful of Cheez-Its, commandeered the kitty for lap-sitting protocols and relaxed.

I ended up staying up until 3am.

This morning, I woke up with a familiar sense of utter yuckiness that I assumed was from the wine and gluten intake (I'm paleo if your reading of this is your first intro to me. If so, bon jour and welcome.), so I immediately went upstairs to fix myself a nutrition dense breakfast and a giant glass of water to assuage the guilt of self indulgence.

Before I made it up to the kitchen, I remembered it was Scale Day, so I popped in to the bathroom, performed my morning "evacuatio regularus" and weighed myself.

I was down 2.5 pounds from last week.

This is exciting. I was able to let my hair down and still lose weight.

Now, don't be fooled, I am not giving myself permission to do this all the time. That's the kind of thinking that got me into the current state of having over 100 lbs to lose, BUT it's so good to know that when I need to break the glass in case of emergency, no major harm is going to come from eating a handful of Cheez-Its and some wine if I'm following the paleo diet the other 95% of the time.

In my past, one night of binge eating would be enough to derail my entire diet. I'm not sure what's shifted in my thinking this time, but I'm back to paleo this morning, ready to take on the day. I feel so cheerful and light that I've already got my work out gear on and I'm headed out into the sunshine.

Keep Looking Ahead,

I think it's a rule of the universe that if you have cheezits and wine while watching game of thrones it's only fifty calories. The catch is it only works w new episodes.
