I have a great pain specialist

Wednesday, June 08, 2016

Today I had a routine visit with my pain specialist. I liked having him as a doctor right away because he does not just throw narcotics at the pain and he welcomes the fact that I have traditional and non-traditional doctors providing my care. I actually have doctors who all take a holistic approach to giving care.

The last few days I've been struggling with some fatigue and frustration with how that affects my efforts to exercise.

In my visit, my doctor let me unload my frustrations and even told me that taking that time is part of the pain management process. He also told me that despite my frustrations, and knowing that the pain prevents me from having successful weight loss, he feels I'm doing better than most of his patients with Fibro. He said that most people aren't as active as I am, and aren't very motivated to try to overcome the obstacles I have.

I wish I could say that "made it all better" but it's a slow process to get over the monkeys in my brain making a ruckus.

The process of mental re-adjustment takes a few days but his words of encouragement will take hold and I so appreciate that he spends time chatting with me and finding the good in what I've accomplished when I can't see it.

I also have fibromyalgia. A good pain management doc is so important! I added you as a friend, as it seems we have a lot in common. emoticon
