Habit or Hunger?

Sunday, May 29, 2016

I'm working on doing some fasting a few times a week and have arrived at 23 hour fast with a 1 hour feasting period. Ultimately I would like to do this more frequently and begin the fast earlier in the day (finish eating by about 3-4, breaking the fast about 2-3). I've gotten one day done and found I actually enjoyed the fast and learned a lot about myself in the process. The most important thing I found is that I'm not usually an eater because I'm hungry, but because its *time* to eat. I've spent 60+ years eating my 3 squares and its HARD to break the mind of that habit.
I'm a very low carb eater, and in ketosis, so my body is adapted to eating ketones for fuel. I don't think I could do this as easily if it weren't. I just don't have the same hunger that I had on the standard American diet. Its wonderful. So, today is the second day and though I'm a little bit hungry, it just isn't hard to keep going. Its just breaking the thought that I *have* to eat at those certain times that I have to fight!. I consider this a victory!!

Fasting has been my lifestyle since January 3 2015! You're correct in being programmed to eat vs actual hunger. Glad to hear you have started experiencing ketosis! 😃

I have had periods of fasting in which I fasted the same day each week. Scheduling became problematic and the fact that I do need to feed my husband. But, I know I will do more of that in the future as it did agree with my body, mind and spirit. Longer fasts from time to time have been helpful as well. It sure does show us how much of eating is just habit.
