Tracking Good Habits - May Update

Friday, May 20, 2016

Is it really almost the end of May? How can that be... what a month. My chart I wrote about in my last blog post (featured - what fun - I am so thankful for everyone's wonderful comments!) has been the only thing keeping me marginally on track. So, I haven't been nearly as successful as I'd hoped. But, I have kept up with the chart and that has been great at keeping my ideal good habits in the front of my mind. My whole family was hit by a nasty stomach flu bug. Wow - it's the worst I can remember being sick. I lost several pounds (bright side?) but then gained it back immediately after a few days of eating regularly again (frustrating - I thought there might be some bonus). As it went through my family it was tough to cater to everyone's dietary needs. Then, my dermatologist found melanoma - yikes, luckily fully treatable via surgery, but it wreaked havoc with any exercise (and I may have eaten some 'comfort' food to make myself feel better - bad habit). All healthy now - with even more motivation to stay that way... right?! So, now I am looking forward. I took all of my chart entries and made a new and improved chart for June. I am determined to keep trying. I tried to simplify it a bit so I would keep up with it and leave room to actually write numbers / letters in to represent movement ((w)alking/(g)ardening/(b)ikin
g) veggies (5!), water (8!). I still need to conquer my sugar addiction - it is wreaking havoc with me, yet I just can't stop. I have a friend starting Whole30 in June and I may look into that. Maybe a more formal program will help. I have a feeling it is all tied with my thyroid / gut / hormone issues, but I sure feel powerless to deal with it sometimes. Sigh. Well, I will try and finish out May with a positive approach and look forward to new / better habits in June. June - a great month for being outdoors, eating light, shedding weight (mental and physical), moving more. Happy Sparking, Everyone!

emoticon You have had a lot going on. Congrats on the tracker. I like the looks of it. Hang in there! I looked at the Whole 30 and it seems like a good program. I don't think I could sustain it, so am keeping on my program. Good luck with it if you chose to do it. I do have sugar now and then- no more than 16tsp ( grams) per day. Fruit usually works for that.

So glad the melanoma was found early enough! I had a carcinoma off 5 weeks ago and am dealing with an infection. Melanoma is so much worse.

Calendars, charts, and of course spark help me to keep track of my progress as well... Gives me a extra bit of motivation to get moving. The stomach flu is about as bad as it gets, everyone seems like in the area here was hit with it back in March... I missed a couple of days of work bc of it. Glad to here that your dermatologist was able to find the melanoma and get you treated, that runs in my family as we are pale skinned and just can't seem to keep out of the sunshine when we are given the chance. I try to stay stocked up on sunscreen but I don't always remember. Walking, gardening and biking huh? That should be enjoyable and keep you busy working towards your goal. And yep conquering the sweet tooth is a tricky one... but you can do it. At any rate, hope you have a great weekend.
