Food, food, food. It's all about logging!

Finally the birthdays at our house are over and I can reel it all back in. Because, boy howdy, I let out some slack! I kept up the exercise because that is already fixed into my schedule. Got to get strict. Food is my biggest challenge. Any advice???

    I made it through today! Kept myself busy during the danger time and was good about logging. One day at a time!!

    I agree with you completely! I am lazy about logging, and just today realized that is why I am failing and struggling I start logging every bite and not saying "Oh, I will do it later". We've got this!! emoticon

    For me, the planning is important. I want to have food I like to eat around the house, and in my lunch bag, so that when I am hungry I won't eat everything in sight because what I really want isn't available. I don't worry much about what I eat, just how much of it.

    The best advise I have had, and what I have had good success with, was also the hardest for me: SLOW DOWN. I am a fast eater, so slowing down, tasting my food, taking at least 20 minutes to eat a normal portion, have made a big difference. I have been surprised by how little food it takes to satisfy me when I am truly paying attention to it, tasting it, and enjoying it.

    I think the most important thing to do is find an approach to food that you can sustain. I have lost and gained this weight enough, so now, I am trying to go slow, and eat in a way I can see eating for the rest of my life.

    You can do it!!

    Make eating right as convenient as possible for yourself. When you buy packages of dry goods, measure our portions into small ziploc bags and put the baggies back inside the package, so when you are ready to have that snack or bowl of cereal or whatever you can just grab a pre-measured portion and go. This will save you from "eyeballing" your portions when you are in a hurry and don't want to fool with measuring.

    It will also stop you from eating "just a few more" of those little snack crackers/pretzels and the like. You can also do this with fresh veggies and fruits like grapes in the fridge so grabbing a healthy snack is easy too.

    By the same token, make it inconvenient to eat the wrong stuff. If you buy stuff for others in the house that you should not be eating, store it in a separate section of the pantry/fridge from "your" stuff if possible. Think of these as "red zones" that you should stay out of. Make the "red zones" on high or low shelves...nothing at eye level. It's hard to resist temptation if it's constantly in your face.

    If you go out to eat, plan ahead if possible. Most restaurants have nutrition information available online. Another trick at restaurants if what you're ordering is actually enough food/calories for two meals...split it with someone, or ask for a to-go box when they bring you your meal, and box up half of it before you eat any.

    And as you said...logging is key! Hope these tips help!
