Whole 30 Report Week 1
Wednesday, May 18, 2016
I started the Whole 30 this week. In case you don't know. The Whole 30 is a 30 day detox by cutting out gluten, grains, legumes, sugar, dairy and all processed foods. Leaving a diet of protein, veggies, fruit and healthy natural fat. Just clean wholesome fun. The reason for doing it is my boyfriend was diagnosed with hypertension a few weeks ago, and this is our first step to new healthy habits and managing our health as much as possible. So much of your health depends on the quality of food that you put in your mouth. Within the 30 days your body will be back to functioning more efficiently, like burning more fat as fuel instead of just the sugar you put into it. Your hormones will balance out. The toxins and inflammation your body is holding on to will disappear. And from what I've read an abundance of health issues or symptoms can be managed. One of them being regulating blood pressure without meds. I'm really looking forward to how this plays out.
So far so good. I don't have any complaints. I already follow a tight routine and eat pretty clean throughout the week, so I haven't felt deprived. The weekend will be the true test. I just finished making our food plan so that we stay on track. Now to make other plans and stay busy so I'm not tempted to wonder out on the porch with a nice cold one. I've had a couple of minor headaches, but no serious cravings. The best part so far is that I haven't felt bloated after any meals.
My sweetie is doing great. The way he was feeling and the diagnosis scared him straight. His new motto is "I want to live." That sounds so serious in writing. I assure you, even though he's telling the truth, his delivery has more humor to it. Somethings I've already noticed is his face is less puffy and the darkness under his eyes is disappearing. Another thing is he has stopped snoring. That's huge...for both of us. :)
Some of you might be thinking, "OMG what the heck do you eat?" Pretty darn well to be honest with you. I've included some pics of the meals we've had so far.
Chicken Sausage, veggie and egg bake
Chorizo sausage with sauteed onion, peppers and kale and roasted sweet potatoes
A mixture of fruit with unsweetened coconut, walnuts and drizzled with almond butter.
