Catchup Part 2

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

So, the half marathon was pretty much the highlight of February. My next race wouldn't be until the end of March. That event would set off a series of weekends during which I remained high off of endorphins (& endocannabinoids, as I would later read in a runner's world article). Easter weekend marks the end of the lent season and also signifies the weekend of the Crescent City Classic; a 10k road race held annually in the heart of New Orleans boasting a fast, flat course that brings out all types of runners from the elites to walkers, to revelers dragging their wagons of chilled beer and boom box blasting party tunes while donning the wackiest (& most clever) of costumes giving even Bay to Breakers participants a run for their money. To sum it up, it's a super awesome race that's literally for every and anybody whether you're looking for PRs or PBRs (Or the better quality selections from NOLA and other local Brewers). I had an awesome time with my sister, her fiancé' and two other friends who all travelled from Phoenix to take part. It was an awesome weekend! The following weekend I attended a friend's (absolutely beautiful and spectacularly amazing) wedding festivities in the Chicago area. Of course I had to sign up for a race while there. It was Shamrock Shuffle 8k weekend and I could not pass up the opportunity to run it (& try my legs out on the stairs at Swallow Cliff). I was able to meetup with one of my instgram running buddies, which was totally awesome! It was SO COLD on race day! The previous day the weather was in a constant state of indecisiveness as it went back and forth between beautiful and sunny and crazy sideways snow and totally gray skies. It was so cold that everyone's phone batteries were draining super quickly. Luckily there was a Bank of America charging station near the finish/start line to give us enough temporary juice to text a "meet me by the ____" to the friends you lost on your way to the finish line. It was a great experience & I got to do a bit of sightseeing afterward. Did I mention that this whole time I'm driving to these locations? I'm such a road trip junkie! It was my first time driving through St. Louis and seeing the Arch was totally amazeballz. Driving just gives you so much extra time to see stuff! I was like, "ooh, next time I'm coming back to see this and this and oh yeah That too, definitely that!" Next blog will be about my Ragnar experience (which was just 2 weeks after Chicago).
