A Surprise Pre-op Today!

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

I was up and out by 8:45am this morning. I drove to the doctor's office and allowed extra time in case there was a long wait for my x-rays. I had trouble finding a parking space due to the huge number of patients there today. I have never seen so many! I decided to drive to the most obscure spot on campus and I found one open space. I made good time in driving there but it took me 15-20 minutes to find a space. I was afraid that I wouldn't have time to get my x-rays done before my appointment but I was wrong. I hit it just right and had no wait at all!

For some reason, my doctor wasn't busy when I went in and they took me early. emoticon My doctor thought that this was a pre-op appointment since I am already on the schedule for May 27th. I still have not received word from my primary about the pre-op testing that was done on Monday. That will change when I march over to the testing place tomorrow after my dental appointment. I plan to nicely but firmly get all of the test results and hand carry them to my primary doctor's office. I know that his office staff hate it when I get pushy like that but too bad. Then, they will have to schedule my pre-op clearance appointment!

Anyway, back to today's orthopedist appointment. I had to wait almost 50 minutes to see my orthopedist's surgery coordinator. She kept walking past the examining room and would give me updates on her progress. There were a bunch of patients ahead of me waiting to see her. Then she called me back to her office. I signed a bunch of papers (she gave me copies of everything) and called over to the hospital requesting a pre-op appointment. The hospital wasn't busy at that point, so I went right over. I had to call the vet from my car and change the dog's appointment to next week. Once that was done, I went to the hospital and had my hospital pre-op. They suggested at the hospital that I may want to consider making copies of my primary's clearance, so I can bring them with me on the day of surgery. Hopefully I can get copies from my doctor. I pray that he won't tell me that his staff will fax them. So far his staff leaves a bit to be desired. Once that appointment was finished it was after 2pm.

Since I had already moved the vet appointment to next week, I decided to swing by Costco on my way home and order my glasses. A few weeks ago, hubby helped me pick out the frames for my new glasses and we took a picture of them. This will be pretty straight forward, I was thinking. Not likely! I couldn't find the frames anywhere in their selection. So, I tried on a few frames that were similar and selected a back up pair. Then I waited my turn to be helped. The person in front of me in line, saw my back up pair of frames and she decided she wanted to make sunglasses with those frames. So, she "borrowed" them from me and went about getting fitted for sunglasses. She thanked me for picking out such a pretty frame. Once it was my turn, I showed the optician the picture of the the frames I had previously picked out and he went to look for them. Of course they no longer carry them. He suggested that he could try to order them from the manufacturer for me but that could take weeks if ever. Sigh!

I took a deep breath and held up the frames that were my back up plan. I wonder when I started to get so jaded that I just don't trust easily any more. The man fitted me with the glasses, I paid for them and turned to leave. The woman behind me asked if she could see the glasses I had chosen. She put them on and asked me what I thought. They actually looked okay on her but she had another pair in her other hand that looked even better on her. I shared my opinion with her and once again turned to leave. She commented to me that I have really nice taste in frames. I smiled and thought, "Gee I should work here! I think I just sold several pairs of the same frames." The glasses will be ready in 7-10 days. No I don't have any pictures of them yet. I will try to post a picture once I get them.

I love Costco's Eve Dept. I love my glasses from there, and the price cannot be beat anywhere!!

Can you call your Dr.'s nurse? I just got a pre-open from my primary Doctor, and they forgot to send it, and I called the nurse. She sent it to my Surgeon and the hospital.

I KNOW this is all a pain, but I am glad you're getting all of this done. It's going to be a good year for you, and I am so glad.

Gee, Cyndi, would you come help me pick out some new frames? Really, I hate choosing frames; never end up with what I want. You must have the knack! Can't wait to see them.

I think you are really smart about dealing with medical things, doctors and hospitals. It can be so frustrating. Sounds like everything is falling into place for your May 27th date. Wishing you so much health, luck, healing and everything needed for as smooth a surgery as possible! Take care, dear friend.

I have a frame I'd like to get. I picked it out ages ago and keep telling myself I should get them. Maybe they won't be at the frame store when I go back! Enough about me. :-) I'm glad you had a good and productive day. You sure do keep busy!
