It's The Binge

Wednesday, June 20, 2007

OK, I do not binge all the time... just the last couple hours of the day. Yes, I've read that you should have NOT eaten four hours prior to sleep. Doesn't help yet.

I'm also a cigar and pipe smoker. If I could afford the cigars, that would not be a problem -- I do not smoke around others (very rarely do I find someone who doesn't mind), smoking a cigar is a 45-minute commitment (re-lighting a cigar, at least what I've been smoking, is a baaaaaad idea)... so when I have a sufficient quantity, I usually smoke one every two or three days. (I do not inhale.)

But when I can't afford them, I switch to my pipe. Let me tell you, pipe tobacco is worse than cigar tobacco. More additives, more lots of things... and even people who have trained their kids to tell people that smoking is bad will tell them, "No, it's OK honey, a pipe is not the same thing."

I can lay off, sometimes for as much as 4 days. Then I smoke once the next day, thinking I can lay off again... but no, within another four days, the chimney is in full production. Or I go all day without smoking... and then start binge-smoking at the end of the day. Or a friend comes over and smokes cigarettes, and I tell myself I need to smoke to mask his smoke (really, cigarette smoke makes me ill, and smoking a cigar or pipe DOES mask it... but I do use it as an excuse).

It is true that I don't inhale. But with all the smoke in the room, it hardly matters. I have a WONDERFUL smoker's cough in the morning, and have several other of the "side" effects.

And every site I go to that promises to help me quit smoking starts with "How many packs a day do you smoke?" and cannot shift gears. I guess smoking pipes and cigars isn't "real" smoking.

LOL Now if I could just get someone to tell me that what I'm eating isn't "real" food... probably isn't, but that's modern groceries for ya. Definitely need to talk myself into more fruits and vegetables, but I have some limitations on that (allergies).

OK, I've blabbed enough for one day. Took me 20 minutes to find out how to post here, and I've spent at least that long posting.
