Before the race

Saturday, April 30, 2016

Race starts in 3 1/2 hours and I am having my coffee. I cannot start my day without coffee. I had a restless night and woke up before the alarm. The good news is that the weather is going to be great for running.

Last night we went to pick up our packets, but on the way, we picked up my 6 year old grandson from school so that he could come along and run the 1k. He thinks he is fast and puts so much emphasis on winning. I try to tell him running is not about winning, but only doing your best on each run. Some days are just going to be bad run days and not to be discouraged. Plus there were a lot of kids that were older than him so there was no way he was going to win.

I wonder if he has that in his mind because about 3 years ago he ran with a group of bigger children that was an out and back. He was so small compared to every one else. He was not quite halfway down the stretch when all the other kids turned around, so I turned him around also. The crowd was cheering him on and he was really into the race. He came in third. That was an exciting race for him.

Now, this morning, my granddaughter will be running her first 10k and she is debating on whether on not to stay with me or leave me. Last night, she said, "It is like you said, "Grandma", I'll just have to follow the ones ahead of me." Yeah, I think that girl is planning on leaving me in her dust.

Well, I am making this short because I have to get ready for the race.!!!!

It is awesome to hear of kids who want to run outdoors instead of playing nonstop video games! I am glad that you are promoting this healthy lifestyle in your family! Enjoy your race emoticon
