Strategies for making this the last time I am this heavy...

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

I am 6 days into my current push to record my food and be mindful of my carbs, and I am going strong. But as I look at my bog posts from years ago, I am already trying to figure out how to ensure that I don't lose my focus and end up back where I am now. I sort of wish I could set up my Spark app to pop up app to pop up with notifications to do a weigh in every x number of days...I find that if I'm avoiding the scale it is because I don't want to know what it says. Maybe a reoccurring calendar reminder? About 15 years ago I hit my goal weight at WW and once I was there I just had no motivation to keep me focused. Obviously I changed my behaviors, but all it takes is a life change to mess with the atatus quo and there I go down the slippery slide to unhealthy. Any advice for building in a safety net while I am super motivated would be appreciated!

Glad to know I am not the only one. Bluejeans27, I might be just the same and will need to watch the scale every day.

I lost 85 lbs six years ago going from 250 down to 165. I managed to maintain for 5 years just watching the scale and cutting back when it moved up 5lbs. Well this past year with Menopause approaching, 20-25lbs came on fast. I am currently fighting a losing battle, literally. Not much loss and 5 weeks in. I felt like giving up this last week, but didn't. I am glad, the scale hasn't moved, but I am feeling better. And inches are coming off. It will be a life-long battle I am afraid and a major lifestyle change forever. I still eat some things I shouldn't, but stay within my calories. I continue to exercise and eventually this will work. Hang in there. We can make the changes to lose and maintain.....we have the power within us!

I weigh in every morning,,,, if I am up 2 lbs I realize it could be water weight and make sure the foods I eat that day are foods with very little sodium and mostly water.

Stay around 1500 MG a day in sodium since that is the easiest way to lose weight...you can track it on spark. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated as well since even mild dehydration can stall weight loss.

I reached my goal weight in 2013 but am still struggling to keep the weight off. I find that writing in a journal about how good I feel at a lower weight (my pants fit better, I sleep better, more energy, etc.) helps with keeping me focused on avoiding the food traps that make me re-gain.

Regarding the scale, I have tried weighing once a month, once a week, twice a week and not at all -- I gained weight with all those methods. I finally have come to terms with just weighing myself once a day, in the morning, and realized that this is the method where I am most successful at keeping the weight off. Even if the weigh-in is bad news, I think to myself, "Well, I have a chance today to improve that number tomorrow!" Always put a positive spin on negative news if you can :)
