Starvation mode

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

Here's a word that has been thrown around on the chat board. What is it and is it real? It doesn't mean you will starve to death. What it does mean is that if you don't eat enough calories your metabolism will slow. Reactive thermogenesis is the real name. One study found that even losing more than 1/2 pound a WEEK can cause this. Many people have testified that they didn't start losing weight until they started feeding their body correctly. So if you want to be successful in your weight loss goals you really should eat at least the minimum number of calories in your given range. I was sick for a prolonged period and probably ate a couple hundred calories a day during that time. Only lost about 10 pounds. That's my personal experience with it.

Upping my intake physically made me feel better.

Thanks for the interesting post. I'm a little confused by the range advice... My range is 1200 - 1500 calories daily. I've assumed I should aim for 1200. Is that correct, or should I eat more?

I have been plateaued for a month and have been over indulging too much

I was a skeptic but then several plateaus later discovered when I ate more carbs for a day or two I would break my plateau. Now I am trying to figure out how to maintain. Still 5 lb to go, s few weeks to figure out a plan.

There is definitely a balance. It took me awhile to understand but it's part of the learning curve!!

I agree with you. When my weight loss and my energy slows down I know immediately that my nutrient intake is out of balance. That has happened in the last week. I suffered the loss of my gram a week ago today and I know I wasn't eating enough ...or the right things. Now I'm focusing on feeding my body better.
