I've Lost 40 Pounds!

Monday, April 11, 2016

Couldn't believe the scale this morning! One more pound lost. That's a total of 40 from my highest weight ever and 21 since January 2016! Happy Dance!!! I never thought I'd be able to say that! I've still got a long way to go, but I'm happy with what I have accomplished so far!

Went this morning to the YWCA for arthritis aerobics in the pool and then straight from there to have my annual mammogram. It's so important to get them if you are the age you are supposed to get them. My sister was diagnosed last year with breast cancer after her annual mammogram. She took chemo and radiation and is doing well today! But, it is still scary for her and for me. If it's time for yours, please don't put it off!

Wednesday I have to go back to my doctor to get the results of that pesky B12 levels test. Seems mine is quite high. So, going to see if it has changed any since I had my labs done in February. I certainly hope so. If all goes well the the mammogram and the B12 test, then it will be on to total knee replacement surgery on April 28. Still scared and thinking I might back out! But, only time will tell. I know I need to have it done!

I'm so stoked about the 40lbs gone! My surgeon will be glad too. He wanted my BMI below 40 and now I am at 38.1. Still in the obese range, but much better than when I started at 42.8! I also just want to thank all of you that have helped me and been with me through my journey so far! You know who you are! It's EVERYONE on SparkPeople! I love SparkPeople! It has changed my life in so many ways! I just can't say thank you enough to all of you that have supported me and encouraged me and just to thank SparkPeople for having such an amazing website that is still FREE that really works!! Those of you that comment on my posts and activity are such nice and great people. I think of all of you as truly friends! The weight is coming off so slow this time. I don't know it it's my age or if its because I'm not able to do weight bearing exercises, but I've been so discouraged many times and you all have helped pick myself up and keep going! I love you for it. So, I hope you all stay around for the next 40lbs that will be leaving this body soon.

I know my knee surgery may mess up things for awhile, but I've prepared myself for that but not giving up! I feel so much better with each passing day! I've come too far to look back now! Last night I started a list of NSVs (non scale victories) that I have discovered or felt. The page wasn't long enough to list them all. I used a format from another SP friend (Bonnie, I love you!) to list them. It's so exciting to see the progress being made and can't wait to see what new things are still to come!

emoticon Forty pounds dropped & counting! emoticon

Reading your blog has me on a high! I love a success account & yours definitely is just that. I am so very happy for you & am glad that I have touched lives with you here in "Sparkville".

My step-dad had knee surgery in his late seventies. With his first knee he had a really hard healing period, so much so that he would not permit the second knee to be operated on, until the pain became unbearable. And you know what? With the second surgery the healing process was a breeze. He only wished that he had gone for it sooner!

I share that account with you to let you know that whatever the outcome as far the healing process goes, people get through it & are glad for the improvement after the surgery & healing period.

By the way, my step-dad is now in his nineties & still going strong with his pain-free knees!

I have lifted prayer on your behalf - asking for God to give you His unique & wonderful peace, as you go through the surgery & healing period. Also, asking that He give your surgeon His wisdom while doing the surgery.

    God bless!

You are doing so great! And 40 lbs is really something to be proud of. It will make recovery from knee surgery much easier, as will all the muscle strength you have been developing with your exercises. I would love to see your list of NSV, bet they are all things to crow about! emoticon emoticon emoticon

You are doing SO great! Congrats on 40lbs lost! How exciting! You have accomplished so much and come so far. You inspire me by persevering and pushing forward even when the going gets tough!

I know you are feeling scared about the knee replacement surgery, but if you feel that your quality of life will be better after you've healed from it, then it is definitely worth it! Remember to focus on what you CAN do and what you can control afterwards, which is basically what you're doing right now. Sounds like you're going in prepared either way!

emoticon I wouldn't call that slow! 21 lbs. in 3.3 months is great. The weight you have taken off will make your rehab after knee surgery that much more successful.

And you won't be just lying around... they will have you walking probably day one, and doing PT exercises every day. So your weight loss may not stall after surgery, and you will have the benefit of being able to be more active afterward.
