International Feng Shui Awareness Day (pronounced fuhng shwey) celebrates this ancient art or philosophy that was developed in China over 3,000 years ago. According to Merriam-Webster.com Feng Shui is "a Chinese system for positioning a building and the objects within a building in a way that is thought to agree with spiritual forces and to bring health and happiness". The word Feng means wind and shui means water and Chinese associate wind and water with good health. Feng Shui deals with energy flow and balance. Many people set up their homes using Feng Shui techniques so that everything is correctly aligned so they have good flows of energy.
Back is much better today... it rained off and on yesterday...hence my backache.
Today I'm doing housework, stairs, lifting, windows, and walking.
Made some interesting Mushroom, Onion, Bean soup with chicken broth
and it came out fantastic. I'm going to puree it and add some cod.
My mom is really into Feng Shui and while we were house hunting, she kept reminding my partner, Mike and me to take a compass with us. Make sure the front door faces South! Or was it West? I can't remember. Obviously, him and I are not into Feng Shui very much. Everything is worth at least a try! Thanks for sharing! 1861 days ago
funny! - loved them - also glad you back is better - we have rain today - but it is my shoulder that hurts - getting older and numerous injuries from youth just don't go well with rainy days 1862 days ago
The computer room only has one window that faces north and is filled with his camouflage wear, boots, hunting equipment, and fishing rods stacked in one corner. Guess this serves as his man cave! 1862 days ago
DAWNDMOORE40 it is always interesting to hear what other cultures do! I have mirrors in my house, one is on one of my bedroom walls but you can't see it until you walk into the room and the other one is on my bathroom door unfortunately you can see it before walking into the bathroom. I hope you have a great week! 1862 days ago
I've not studied Feng Shui that extensively but I still enjoy the jokes. And just the other day I found out (accidentally) that my house has at least one "good" Feng Shei practice - that is, allegedly a mirror should been in the foyer/entrance to your house, but not directly facing the open door, where one would see it immediately ahead of them when they opened the door. Instead, I guess it's supposed to be at 45 degree angle to the door entrance, or like on a wall that's behind the door so you would see it after you came in through the door and after you shut the door. In any case, our mirror is on that north wall to the right, as we come in the door, so you'd have to turn your head 45 degrees to the right to see yourself and make sure you have no spinach stuck to your teeth, just as you come in the door!!
Yay!! For once I'm doing something right!!
Oh and I need a Woman Cave - I tend to crave solitude more just because it takes so long to process what I think I heard. Lipreading is so tiring and my hearing friends aren't willing to learn and use sign language or cued speech or write notes for me. 1862 days ago
The palm tree joke applies to me. I studied Feng Shui years ago and found it to be the equivalent of an anal Chinese system for rich yuppies who want to be relieved of a ton of money. Actually it wasn't me so much who came to that conclusion but I later came to embrace it after my hubby did. I discovered we had some major things wrong with our home and my hubby needed to reposition the house, move the front door, the bedroom door, the windows, etc. By the time he got done beating me, I knew that unless you are designing a structure from scratch you are kind of stuck with many of the structural aspects of the home you bought.
Men need caves because they are too filthy to live with civilized women. The bottom garage joke applies to my hubby. My MIL bought my hubby a polebarn cave. Can I get him into the thing? Not nearly enough. Believe me, I try. 1862 days ago
I had fun with your blog today! I wouldn't know how to use the Feng Shui method if it kicked me in my face! I just put stuff where ever I can in my small apartment living quarters! :-D 1863 days ago
