Last Friday I decided to challenge myself in a different way during my squat workout. Since I forgot my lifting belt at home, I chose to go without any supportive gear meaning no shoes, no belt, no wrist wraps. What surprised me most is how fast my Inner Yuck Voice tore me apart when I reviewed the video to check for form/technique. Here's what I wrote last week but haven't shared until now.
Please please please do NOT listen to the voice that cuts you down when you see yourself in a mirror, photo, or video.
Please please please do your best to notice that inner yuck voice, and let it fade into the background like leaves on a stream.
Please please please practice standing up for the amazing person you are immediately after that inner yuck voice says you have to lose weight, or shouldn't share that video, or shames you because you have a belly.
Please please please be kind to yourself. It's so easy to be mean. Stop the beatings.
Being mean to yourself is simply habit; your brain's being efficient by thinking thoughts that are easy to think.
That means you can create a new habit: one of being kind, forgiving, and caring to yourself.
Practice thinking new, better-feeling thoughts. Then do reps, reps and even more reps until those new thoughts become easy to think.
Stop the beatings. There is nothing about you or your body that deserves to feel shame, embarrassment, or not-good-enough.
There is only everything about you and your body that deserves to feel brave, proud, and worthy.
You and your body are enough.
