I'm not much of a blogger but just realized I need to record something about having met my goal weight. I did move it a few more pounds so I can have a little range for fluctuation so I'm not "done." In fact I don't think I will ever be done really. I still struggle to get enough and regular exercise and proper diet, there will always be something to work on.
I have to credit two things for not only reaching the goal I set but a month and a half early. One, my health report. A higher than desirable LDL combined with some calcification of an artery that showed up on a scan. I had two choices, take statins or attempt to reverse or check the damage with diet and exercise. My number one favorite food as long as I can remember has been cheese. Right up there near the top is eggs too. How about a ham & cheese omelet cooked in butter, right? Ok I'll throw in some spinach to make it "healthy." That's how I got here. So cheese is out, egg yolks very rare, butter's out, most meat, most dairy. I'm gradually working towards eating vegan. It may take a year and I may still include yogurt and fish, we'll see how it goes. But a low fat and extremely low cholesterol diet produced weight loss. And by the way the symptoms I was experiencing are gone and I feel good.
The second thing that's really worked for me is SparkPeople team challenges. I've done two 8 week challenges so far and they've really helped a lot to keep me focused. I have little weight left to lose but still need much more discipline for exercise so I'm signing on to another challenge. Having to publicly record goal results, exercise and weight weekly really helps to give an extra push. It's also helpful to have a supportive group and to hear about other people's lives and challenges. I'm amazed and awed at the effort and determination of many fellow Sparkers and what they're achieving in spite of some pretty big health and other concerns.
