Freedom

I dropped my husband off at the airport tonight. I now have nine days, just me and the dog.

Whatever will I do? Suggestions?

Right now, we are chilling on the couch. I am going to the library to do some research this weekend. I'll have some time for a Self-Care Sunday. I'll hit the gym several times. I'd like to drop a couple pounds...

I don't have to cook because my husband does that, so he made sure I'm all stocked up on split peas, tuna salad, and "peanut noodles." I joked with a coworker that I hoped he would leave me some pizza money just in case. =)

I have a hard time with being home alone, but I am going to try to savor this time. I usually have a hard time because I'm a brat. I didn't feel lonely in Germany by myself for several months, or when I'd be alone in my dorm in college. I can do alone. I'm good at alone.

Plus, I have the doggie.

Aww, your dog is so cute! I hope you had a fun time while your husband was away. It was so thoughtful of him to stock you up on food, wow! What a good guy!

I usually clean house first when Hubby is gone so I can enjoy it. Yes, I'm weird. And I watch movies he doesn't like to see, and just try to savor my alone time, it is very seldom that it happens. I go visit my mom, and my daughter, and don't have to cook dinner. It is nice to be on my own schedule, only me, for short period of time.

Your dog will enjoy being spoiled. It will be just you and your dog. They are such wonderful company. My Hubby worked 2nd or 3rd shift for most of our marriage. So it was my Daughter, and our dog. emoticon

I love it when my BF is away! My routine changes, for sure. I might go to the gym later, I eat a little differently, etc. I appreciate the freedom... And then when he returns, I'm happy to see him. Take it as it goes, and enjoy!

Actually, I'm jealous. I had a couple of days and nights recently when my husband went on a business trip, and in a very rare convergence of events (sort of like a total eclipse of the sun--that's how miraculous it felt), my live-in daughter was going to be gone those nights, too. I couldn't believe that I was going to have so much time when I didn't have to think about other people! I have a very bad habit of putting other people's needs before my own, so the prospect of solitude excited me deeply. I went and rented a bunch of DVDs. I watched two BBC series of Jane Austen's works--Pride and Prejudice, and Emma. I relished every minute of those nine hours in front of the TV screen. It was like entering another time and place (early nineteenth century England). It was hard to reorient myself when both series came to an end and I had to get back to everyday life, stumbling out into the blinding light and driving a car to go pick people up at the station, then coming home and figuring out what we would eat.

Savor every moment of your freedom! Enter worlds you can't visit when he's home! Eat pizza! And I think you'll then be happy to see him when he gets back, because the real world of everyday life is good, too.

Of course, you can. There might be some lonely moments, but just think of how much you will be able to accomplish. And YES, you will have the dog as your companion and he needs, at least, a couple of walks a day that will help you towards your exercise goals. emoticon
I don't like to be lonely either, but enjoy the peace and quiet that comes with being alone. It allows me to read in the evening, also read the paper in the morning, without interruptions and watching TV. Our TV is running most of the day when dh is at home, which is most days. So, make the most of it, my friend. I'll be thinking of you. emoticon
