Tornado Season Is Here

Friday, March 04, 2016

Last night I attended the National Weather Service Severe Storm Spotter class. I had a really good time and the information helped to put a fear in perspective. I am scared of wind storms and tornadoes. Though, I love going outside (in my yard) when there is a tornado warning issued. But tornadoes are not as common as I thought and it is a rarity that you actually see one. In fact, you can't "see" tornadoes but you can see the rain and the debris since tornadoes are only air. So, next time we get high winds, I'll get a flashlight, my cat, and head for the shower stall. Finally, TRUST GOD!

The meteorologist mentioned about the anticyclonic tornado. It is very rare! You were safe and you were blessed! emoticon

Yes . . . please do stay inside!

I once "saw" something even rarer than a tornado. I saw an anticyclonic tornado. It was a tornado, but spinning in a clockwise direction, rather than the usual counterclockwise direction we normally see in the Northern Hemisphere. I saw it over the pasture outside the picture window in the house where we lived before we moved where we live now. I was so fascinated, I just stood there and watched it out the window. Thank goodness, they are generally very weak and seldom touch down! I reported it to the weather service office in Louisville, KY, giving my exact location and the time that I saw it. They looked at all the maps and all the data about the storm and wrote back to me saying that the conditions were indeed right for such a phenomenon to occur at that time and place! My only regret is that I did not get a picture or video of it.
