Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom

Haw, Haw, Haw, Haw... Just came in from walking. All braced up so when my underclothes braces come off, they are all slimy from sweating on neoprene. The outside brace is for the fixed position to keep my lumbar & sacral joints in & it looks like RoboCop's gun belt. Awkward, bulky, nothing you can hide under clothes, that's for sure. (You can laugh. I HAVE to laugh at myself!) Here's the positive spin on today. I walked 2,888 steps in 44 minutes. Not too shabby for and old broad recovering from some nasty surgeries & only actively working out again for two weeks. However, I am seriously shocked by the fact that I fell down twice...hard. I rolled the ankle that they surgically rebuilt & "fixed" in January 2014. Both times that I fell today were because of that ankle. I had on my walking boots with high tops for support, as usual. Soooo, the first fall was a complete face plant because I couldn't bend my waist to try to catch myself. I landed on my belly and elbows. Dang RoboBrace! So I only had my walking pole to help me up off the pine needles & leaves. The funny thing is that my mother was walking out the door to go lay out & I never made a sound. Just SPLAT! I knew she would force me inside. So if a tree falls in the woods & no one hears it, the no, it makes no noise to the human ear. The second fall I caught what was going on - the first time was a shock as I haven't fallen in a long time. I felt & saw the "good" ankle roll over on flat ground & I dropped to my knees instead of going down like a tree. So my knees are skinned up, my spine & hips have been seriously jarred, and my feet are STILL swollen. (Maybe I should have tried face plant again!). Again, only my walking pole to help me up. It's not easy while wearing RoboBrace. Right now I'm on the bed, feet not yet elevated but slowly going back to their normal size, but I'm taking a moment before getting in the shower & then that dreaded call to my husband to tell him I wiped out twice. I bet I'll only be allowed on the recumbent bike tomorrow. But if I'm already starting to feel the achy parts, there's a good chance my workout tomorrow will be postponed. I can't wait until the ground warms long enough to keep the pool from being too chilly for my blood!! Just one more month, I hope Stay sane & out of trouble, Ang🌺

Oh worst fear is a fall!!! You have read some of my blogs and you know I understand a wee might of what you are going through ...

Question, you mentioned a walking pole ... have you ever tried two? I use two canes and it is amazing the confidence and assistance they give me!!! I only have to have one physically to support weak side but with two I walk a normal gate, a healthy rhythmic pace and feel so much better! Going to be following what you are doing nd cheering you on!!

OUCH! I'm so sorry. I did have to laugh at the Robocop gun belt reference though. :) Here's to a better week!

Awww, Angela, say it ain't so. emoticon That is terrible, you must be all banged up. Lucky you didn't break a wrist or something. How very frustrating.

I can hear your wry sense of humor coming through in your telling of it, nonetheless.

And you didn't deserve that, you were being so good, exercising and wearing all the braces and the high-tops and boots and using your walking pole and everything.
My emoticon goes out to you. I'm sure you will recover from this and carry on, because you are an emoticon warrior.
