Not being a fan of high carbohydrate high sugar breakfasts but being a fan of oatmeal I came up with this savory version.
Not Your Grandmother's Oatmeal
1/3 Cup of Old Fashioned Oats 95 calories
2 Tbsp precooked real bacon bits (Kirkland) 60 calories
2 Tbsp shredded cheddar cheese 55 calories
1 tsp butter 35 calories
Total calories 245 calories
Carbohydrates 28 grams
Protein 16 grams
Fat 18 grams
sodium 295 mg
1. Prepare oatmeal as package directs.
2. Add bacon bits while oatmeal is cooking
3. Add cheese and butter when oatmeal is cooked, mix well
This is a savory breakfast providing a good combination of macro nutrients and no significant sugar. My tomcat will lick the emptied bowl clean and will not touch a bowl which has contained oatmeal served with milk and sugar.
