At last, sustained weight loss
Friday, February 26, 2016
It feels like it's been a long two years.
About that long ago, I managed to gain 15 pounds due to anxiety-fueled eating and no tracking. I made several attempts over the ensuing months to lose the weight and get back on track, but they all fizzled. I have learned this process is not unlike quitting smoking: It can take a number of tries before you succeed.
Through all of this, by the way, I have relied on the support of Spark friends to encourage and motivate me. Thank you all!
Finally, on 1/31/16 I really, seriously buckled down. I have been logging consistently, every day, exercising 5 days a week (or more), and restricting my intake to 1400 calories (net). My goal was to lose 1 pound a week.
And guess what? I've succeeded!
I got on the scale this morning and discovered I've been losing exactly one pound per week, for the past three weeks. I'm right on target.
I opted for a "slow and steady" approach because I'm in no hurry to lose the weight and also because I feel slow weight loss can be more easily maintained.
This process has not been without its struggles. In particular, the past two Saturdays have seen me go off on a binge (date night with The Mister), but now I feel motivated to rein that in, too. I feel confident I will lose these last 10 pounds or so by my birthday, in June.
Here's to everyone who works the Spark on a daily basis and sees the rewards of doing so!
