Day 10 - Set a Realistic Goal
Beck encourages me to set a short-term goal of 5 pounds and celebrate when I get there with some reward that is not food related. I'm good with this. Five pounds is half of what I set out to lose anyway, and just working my way through this book and thinking more, I'm almost to that first 5 pound goal. Without "starting" a diet.
Day 11 - Differentiate Between Hunger, Desire, and Cravings
Now Beck is really talking to ME. This is my biggest issue. I know that often when I eat or overeat, it has nothing to do with hunger! It is just a desire to eat.
Even knowing that, it has been difficult for me to overcome that desire. Beck has identified hunger, desire and craving for me and I find the descriptions to be true. Beck also has a plan to differentiate between these sensations which I"m going to follow exactly to increase my awareness and to see what thoughts come up.
For me, this Beck journey so far has been very much about all the thoughts that come up as I work my way through these chapters. I already knew so much of what I've read so far, but now I really dwell on it, examine it and honestly assess my thoughts and feelings.
This is what is making Beck work for me.
