Sassy Roosters

Thursday, February 11, 2016

I spoke with the illustrator of this and other images this morning and ordered one of her coloring books. We discussed the type of paper in the book, etc. etc. because I'm going to use watercolors instead of pencils, markers, etc. etc.

I enjoy looking at her drawings because they are so unique and well done.

This photo is what sold me on the book because it reminds me very much of a rooster I knew personally, long ago.

Because my husband, Jim, was a Game Warden, people were always giving him animals they didn't want anymore.

One day he brought home a fighting rooster and turned it loose in our yard. Next morning we had suddenly acquired about 20 hens from our neighbor down below the hill. Our new rooster had gone down there, totally flogged the poor rooster living there and brought home his entire harem!

Our new rooster was happy. The girls were happy. The poor rooster down the hill - not so much, lol.

Our new guy was very sassy and had the same look in is eye as the one in this drawing! (Unfortunately, you can't really see the look in his eye since SP won't let me enlarge this image.Try the link below.)

I love the rooster!! I have thought about trying the coloring books too only using markers. Maybe your rooster could come stay with me as I would love to have hens and hubby won't let me. But if they just showed up, were rounded up and brought in,............what can hubby do? Fight the rooster?

    What a great story!
Yesterday I heard a vigorous crowing. Went down to investigate and there was Henrietta standing on tippy toes crowing her lungs out. His lungs out? Gender reassignment au natureal.
We ony got two eggs from Henrietta in 9 years.
