Going to start my triathlon training

Wednesday, February 10, 2016

Starting next week, I am going to start my triathlon training with my hired coach. She is going to train me for the next several months in preparation for my Olympic Distance, open- water triathlon in September.
I just learned how to swim in July 2015 and I am not very fast or efficient in the water just yet. I have done a few lap pool triathlons, sprint distance, but not an open water or an Olympic distance. I am going to have to get a wet suit, learn how to swim in open water and increase my distance and speed.
I have to get some upgrades for my road bike and turn it into a triathlon bike. I will need a new saddle, add aero bars, a new chain and hopefully new wheels. I just got some new cycling shoes and a new helmet before the season ended last year. I also just got a tune up for my bike last month, added some new tape for the handle bars and got it cleaned up. I am hoping that it will last me through the season. It might be the cheapest, oldest, and possibly the only road bike in the event.
The running part is my strength. I just got some new shoes and new socks. I may have to buy a new Garmin watch though. I have a really old cheapy one and would like to upgrade to the vivoactive one. Maybe I can get one item every paycheck so it doesn't set me back to much all at once.
This is expensive. But I am excited.

I also hope you keep us posted about your training. I am thinking of doing a half marathon....walking...if I can talk my walking partner into it.

So excited for you! I did my first Oly distance tri two years ago this June. And FYI, I did it on a fitness hybrid bike... did not get the road bike until after the first. I fretted over making the cut-offs (slow swimmer, but confident)... but made them. You are going to rock this. You are preparing. Looking forward to peeking over your shoulder as you train up for it! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Awesome that you signed up for the Olympic triathlon! Definitely space out the purchases, that should make the financial pinch a lot easier.
