Eat Sitting Down

At first glance, I thought, "Well, this is easy. I always eat sitting down."

On closer look, though, this means no tasting while cooking, no nibbling straight from the fridge, no samples in grocery stores. And on and on an on.

Why? Because it's all calories. And if you aren't sitting down and being aware that you are eating, you won't count it, you won't remember it, you may not even realize it!

So SIT when you eat.

I found it very calming to sit to eat every bite. It makes me realize how much I am eating. That's important when you aren't eating much. It's a great tool.

You BET! This one was a BIGGIE for me! And I even bought the timer she recommended and USE it still (I was a "born wolfer of my food"!) and I even COUNT my bites in my head every time still to make sure I don't' go fast....yes, I'm THAT extreme but it WORKS for me!

Saturday afternoons at the grocery store can be a veritable schmorgesborg. I've tended to look at it as a portion controlled snack.

I really think this particular Beck Strategy is incredibly powerful and woefully under estimated by many.

I do not know why ... habits instilled as a child that stuck? But, I eat sitting down, do not snack, do not eat after dinner, do not eat samples while grocery shopping, do not sample while cooking, and do not nibble at the refrigerator. Have I ever done any of these things? Of course I have. But, we're talking extremely rare.

I can actually remember my mother admonishing us to sit, if someone started to nibble from a plate before sitting down at the table. Sometimes she would have us bring our plate to her and she would serve it directly from the pot at the stove because we did not have serving bowls and she did not want to put a pot on the dinner table. Yeah. She instilled some healthy habits in me. Thanks Mom!
