Continuing my WLS blog series...

Time to move!

The day after surgery, while still in the hospital, tethered to an IV pole, they encourage walking. Not only does it help with gas pain, it increases circulation and aids healing.

It was suggested I get up and walk a little every hour.
And I have to say it felt good to do it. I think it reinforced that I was totally fine after surgery.

Once I got home, I tried to overcome my natural laziness and walk around.

Then my friend wanted to return to the gym in the mornings. So I said I'd go too. I just paced around the gym while she did her work out. Not bad.

After a couple of weeks my surgeon cleared me for light cardio. Elliptical is my machine of choice. He said to listen to my body and to not push too hard. I felt pretty darned triumphant getting back on track!

It wasn't until 6 to 8 weeks that I was allowed to do any strength training. I was happy to get back to it, but also quite cautious. I reduced the weights on most of the exercises, and was fine.

I have to say my energy level has been pretty good, especially considering how little I eat now.

I don't especially want to work out. But I know I should, so I make sure I have a buddy to keep me going!

We go every other day. In better weather we may go daily.
We leave the house at 4am to get home in tine to get ready for work. Yikes!
We do either strength training or elliptical.
YES!! Everything is easier after losing weight!

    4am?!?!?!?!?!? girl - when do you sleep? lack of sleep doesn't help health or fitness as far as I know!!!!
    I'm really happy to hear things are going well for you - thanks for sharing the journey with us, I'm sure you will give hope to lots of people who are teetering on the brink of WLS.

    So how often do you workout now? Do you do other kinds of exercises beside strength training at the gym?
    Is exercise easier now that you're losing weight?
