Tang Soo Do = My new passion.

I can't say enough good things about this martial art. It continues to shape me into something amazing. A stronger, healthier, happier me. Before I started TSD, I never thought a "fat" person like me could do a martial art. That is was only for "skinny" people. Boy was I wrong.

I used to just work out at the gym--the elliptical was my "thing." I got bored. The days I would go to the gym kept getting fewer and fewer. I just didn't have the motivation to go do the same boring routine. A friend of mine was taking Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Tai and Judo and I went to a couple tournaments with him. I loved the energy and the camaraderie between all of the participants, whether they were on the same team or not. I didn't want to take Jiu-Jitsu but I started researching other martial arts and I felt Tang Soo Do sounded the best for me. I went to my first class with a friend of mine and it was a little overwhelming but the instructors were awesome and very patient with teaching us. I fell in love with hitting a punching bag, what a stress reliever!! I finally found my new workout! And I love it!!

I take classes three times a week. I achieved my orange belt in August of 2015 and then I achieved my green belt in November 2015. My two kids came to watch and it made me so happy. They, of course, think I'm crazy--a 42 year old mother taking "karate" classes. But I want them to see that you are NEVER too old to do anything that makes you happy :) I even survive the classes we call "Torture Tuesdays"--haha--and I actually look FORWARD to them. I've made so many amazing friends and have learned so much.

When I started back in March of 2014 I couldn't do a lunge---I can do them now. I couldn't barely do 1 or 2 push-ups and had to finish the rest "girly" style with my knees down. I can now do a few sets of 10. I could barely do a 20 second plank--I'm up to a minute. I'm in love with squats...I love the soreness I feel after a good workout. My core is amazing. I can do box jumps and vertical sit ups. I love the challenges. I FEEL better all around. I LOOK better and get compliments all the time. I feel amazing.

I should earn my black belt in about 5 years. That's my goal. And I WILL do it.

    Wow, That's quite a testimony! I'm pleased that I'm up to 10,000 steps and don't need a cane to walk anymore. You're an inspiration!!!

    You go girl! I do tae kwon do and started when I was so "out of shape" :) I'm five years down the road and working toward my blackbelt. I've gained must skill, friends and even a co classmate husband along the way (that is where we met) enjoy!
