2016: Day 22 - The Good, the Bad (or Neutral) and the Ugly
Friday, January 22, 2016
A tip of the hat to Clint Eastwood with my blog title. Today is a friend's birthday so, every time I wrote the date, I thought good thought about him. I also learned I get to mentor one of our students starting next week on a very long project. Those were the good.
The bad or neutral is the fact that I did not meet my Sparkpeople goals today. I walked only once today for less than 8K steps, 2.91 miles and will end the day shy on water.
The ugly was the reason why the goals were not met. We were walking inside because my coworker/walking buddy doesn't walk outside when it's cold or raining and we were getting much needed rain. Almost at the end of our walk, my shoe stuck to the carpet and I fell. Classic four point landing with a roll to the left side. Rug burn on left knee and soft tissue pain in the right shoulder and neck.
That pales in comparison to the news today that Bill Johnson died at age 55. He was the downhill skier gold medalist in the Sarajevo winter games. I remember seeing his race on tv.
If I remember correctly, this was the first US gold medal (men) for this race. He later tried to make a comeback and had a horrible fall in another race and suffered traumatic brain injury. Possibly as a consequence of that, he had a series of strokes and is now gone.
We came in to work this morning to learn that a former coworker died of cancer. We were at the company at the same time, but I did not know him. I knew his name because, even today, I run across his name in the files. I loved hearing the stories about him today as people remembered him and shared their sad reactions to his passing.
