Preparing for WLS?

Friday, January 22, 2016

Even not yet decided, I wanted to be prepared. Living as if? Partly to see what the lifestyle would be like, if I could do it.

Over the summer, I gave up coffee and caffeine. I started by slowly switching to decaf, then I stopped altogether in July. I missed my iced coffee! I missed the morning routine. But I didn't really need it.

Next, I researched post-op recipes, and found a bunch to be cooked in muffin pans for portion control. And I tried some of them. Pretty darn good! I discovered that ground turkey is a lot more tender than ground beef, and I discovered how much I liked meatless meals, especially those made with eggs. I'll post a couple of recipes in the near future.

Also, I drank lots of water. 3 quarts a day. With Mio. Very doable.

Meanwhile I still did WLS research, but the tone turned to looking for reasons NOT to do it.

Again, my biggest fear was regain. I'd lose and gain it all back, making me the real biggest loser.

And I confess, it's still a worry for me. But I'm working hard to be sure that does NOT happen!

I hope you stay with me on this journey!
More to come!

Yes: minimum 48 ounces of water each day. In sips, 1 cup per hour.
I still struggle with that.

Living as if - Mostly it helped, but I was not then able to FEEL the restrictions of a tiny stomach. Now it is such a blessing to be stopped when I want to over do it!

Mio is like Crystal Light, a non-calorie water flavor enhancer. My fave is Berry Pomegranate.

Very smart strategy. I wonder if "living as if" would give you enough progress to make continuing to "live as if" an option to surgery. I think it was brilliant of you to do this. Thanks for posting about it.

You are doing due-diligence in your research! There are things I wish I had known prior to surgery, but it is amazing how resilient our bodies are and how quickly we adapt!

    What is Mio?

Yes you were very thorough in your research. I wonder if you feel that 'living as if' gave you a good idea of what it is like now that you've done it?

I think you were very smart to live, "as if."
You are expected to drink all that water with a little tummy? Wow !
