Working out "everything" : )

Sharing a good thing!!
It's so important to work on all of our gifts that come with this magnificent thing called our body!!
This week I returned to school for my certification as a CNA (Certified Nurses Assisistant/ Long Term Care)
I've been blessed and feel it's time now to pay it forward and help others whose paths weren't as blessed as mine and now they're in Nursing Homes.
I learned that many feel ignored or somewhat neglected for many reasons and I feel they shouldn't be.
Also, it's another "workout" for me or I should say my "thinking part" of the body.
We sometimes tend to forget that part and that it too can become "out of shape".
"Use it Or Lose it" is a title a friend of mine uses quite often in her local town paper where she post a column 2x weekly. It's advise she shares with us all as a retired R.N. who served in World War 11!
One day she shared that she had also received her pilots license a few years back and it was time to re-new. She stated "my flying days are over" I just go for the test to "workout" my brain.
She suggested we all need to "think" beyond the bar!
So I did and am now studying for my first quiz.
Just a little reminder to all of my Spark friends to "Use It or Lose it" emoticon

Well said and good luck on your studies. As for exercising the brain, I do Lumosity for 30 minutes just about every day. I helps exercise the brain and it's fun.

I am very good at exercising and eating healthy. But one thing not exercised so much is my brain and am currently taking multiple webinars on various self help topics, everything under the sun to help improve my life and my interactions with others, just all kinds of enlightening topics to make me a better person. It really is never too late to learn new things.
My poor grandmother languished in a nursing home for 20 years, completely paralyzed on her dominant side so unable to do anything and suffering terrible pain from not being moved. There was a serious staff shortage and care was very limited. The very first time they put adult diapers on her she was mortified but could not do anything about it. There was simply not enough staff to look after every patient's bodily needs constantly. She got terrible bed sores from not being turned often. This is a sad factor in care homes here and there have been many news making stories of things happening to residents like dementia patients wandering around and injuring other patients. Our publically funded system may help people who need it but tight budgeting to try stem the tide of deficits is also hurting them and creating long wait list for people to get in. There seems to be no solution. Now with Canada's dollar sinking ever worse, medical supply products we will use that come from the US will skyrocket in price causing even more problems :-( I sure hope things are better in homes in the US. I admire people who want to work with the elderly, I feel they are not getting the attention they deserve either.
Good for you wanting to help!!

I was a CNA in a nursing home for 37 years. If you truly apply yourself, it is both physically and Mentally challenging. Good luck. I've been working an a family tree. That's proving to be a real mental workout.

Absolutely... and that includes the upper body! LOL! Yes, I do weight training... or rather I've started taking it more seriously again... I tend to focus on whatever the current challenge is, and beating that pool exit is in focus NOW! emoticon
