WLS: Researching in earnest

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

After I attended the WLS info session, I was determined to do as much research as I could. Don't get me wrong, I was really excited and hopeful. But WLS is a serious choice. It's body altering, and not reversible. (Ok the band is reversible, but I didn't want that.)

I talked to the people I knew who had the surgery, or had a significant other who did. They all encouraged me to do it, saying their only regret was waiting so long. But I repeat myself.

I do know of one person who did not have an overwhelming success with WLS, but it was obvious she was not committed to making the changes needed for long term success. Of course that made me fear that I also might not be able to do it. Still, I needed more info.

So I bought a bunch of Kindle books, and subscribed to many websites and blogs about the subject. And let's not forget Pinterest.

One last bit of research was to talk to a relative in the medical industry. Much to my delight, he recommended the hospital and the surgeon I was hoping for.

In case anyone is interested in the info I read, I'll include a few URLs here. There are a ton more, and I'm happy to share if anyone wants more.

As intrigued as I am, I am not ready...I am trying (with little success) just to change my eating habits and stick to a 'diet'....the thought of having to change my eating habits or face serious complications scares the heck out of me!

You were very thorough in your research! Does that mean you now also feel better and more confident that you made the right choice? Did you feel you could find the information you really needed? Seems like there's a sea of information out there. Must be hard to find exactly the things you want to know.

I think you probably tried to compare that unsuccesful person to yourself. I hope you found differences that mean that you will do better!
