Recalling Past Success

About a year or so ago, I was doing Weight Watchers with my mom and started to see results. I dropped about 10 lbs and was hungry for quicker results. So, I joined a gym (with child care- my biggest obstacle to a gym membership). I paid up front so I wouldn't have the stress of another monthly bill hanging over my head and I started going for 20 minutes twice a week.
I remember feeling afraid and ashamed at first, as though everyone was staring at the fat girl on the elliptical. I ended up paying for a trainer (great results, but way too much money) and slowly shook my fear of the gym. The people who worked there remembered me and encouraged me and it was fantastic. One of the other gym regulars even liked to challenge me on the bike to a race.
As with every other attempt at going to the gym that I've ever made, I stopped going as soon as I got a cold. I get asthmatic bronchitis every year, and truthfully my asthma isn't very well controlled anyway. The truth is, I knew people remembered me and I was ashamed for the amount of time it took me to be ready to go back, so I just didn't.
My favorite part of that success was being able to see the results. Even when numbers on the scale didn't go down, I could tell the difference by my receeding love handles and my shrinking chicken wings. I started buying dresses and doing my hair in the morning. I spent time reading fitness magazines to find new exercises I could do and creating playlists in iTunes that would keep me pumped. I joined a social media site (a lot like SparkPeople's PEP) and learned all about the different activities people were doing that didn't *seem* like exercise, but instead a lot of fun and I started to try and pick some of them up.
Reflecting back on that time, I was really happy. I had a positive outlook on life, I had more energy, I was sleeping better. I strive to get back to that place. My solution, at this time, is to find another gym (we have moved) so that I can do just that. I'm really excited about this part!
