New Year, New Diet Enthusiasm

Sunday, December 27, 2015

I just thought I'd write about new diets as we kick off 2016. I think that when most people start a new way of eating they are very excited about it and want to shout about it from the rooftops especially when that way of eating helps them lose weight and makes them feel better physically and better about themselves emotionally.

We often think everyone should switch to our way of eating because we feel so good. Often that will cause us to overstate our case in forums like these. Unintentionally offending people in our zeal to make everyone feel better like we do.

I myself am guilty of this and in my frustration a few years back I left spark for a while and when I came back I wrote this mantra.

"Back on Spark. Focusing on personal development and continuing my education. Not everyone here is going to agree with me and that's okay. It's not up to me change people's minds. All I can do is tell my truth and hope to help someone along the way. Hopefully my results will speak for themselves."

I have to remind myself of this from time to time.

Happy New Year Everyone!

"tell my truth" - yup, good way to put it.

I think that the real impact comes from people seeing our successes.

I have to point out to people that even though I'm not at goal weight yet, I've kept 26 pounds off for 4 years, and have kept losing (verrrrry slowly) over 4 and a half years. According to the professionals, weight loss is only successful/permanent if you've kept it off for 5 years. Got a ways to go yet, but I'm getting there. Most women my age are putting on 2-5 more pounds every year, and I'm taking them off. WIN!

No enthusiasm here. Just a resolve to never quit, and do better each year! emoticon

Thanks for sharing this. Nutrition is such a complex subject, and even experts disagree at times. I'm really interested in nutrition for optimum health. I've arrived at a diet that works fairly well for me, but I love to pick up new ideas and see what's working for other people!
