Never too old!

As an ardent believer in the Blue Zones concept, I have decided to make even more good changes in my life. In high school, I ran in track, and over the years, I continued to run. At times it was more sporadic than regular, but it was always in my life. Then I got busy. It doesn't matter whether it was having children, getting divorced, working full fime, going back to school, or what it was. I always had an excuse for not being more active. Even through all of that, I kept trying to include some sort of physical activity in my life. I joined a gym several times, and those also became merely sporadic.
On December 16 of this year, I began walking on a more regular basis. My new tenant in a little studio apartment I rent out is an old friend from years ago. Every morning she and I have been walking. Sometimes we walk in the neighborhood and sometimes we go down to the drive along the beach. I am now up to doing 2 miles with her, and another 1 mile in just regular activity around the yard and my house.
I've been a fan of Jeff Galloway's run-walk-run routine for many years, but I have not tried it. I have a goal of doing a 5K before long. I haven't set a date for the goal yet, because I need to find out when the next ones are scheduled here in my area. I also have a goal of eventually walking "The Way," although I haven't told anyone about that one yet. One thing at a time!!
In order for this blog to make sense, you need to know something else about me. I turned 81 years old in September, I am in my third career as a full time tenured professor and I have loads of energy. I am extremely healthy with none of the usual problems that most people my age have. While I don't feel physically fit, I am better right now than I was even a year ago.
So, don't ever let anyone tell you that you are too old to start something new. None of us is ever too old to get back into living a fit and healthy life! Read about the Blue Zones, and get going!
