New Swim Challenge

Tuesday, December 22, 2015

It's been awhile since I've talked about swimming and I'm super excited about my new challenge, so I thought I'd share with my lovely friends here on SparkPeople.

First let me just recap and say that I love to swim. For me, there is absolutely nothing better or more therapeutic than the rhythmic strokes as I watch the tiles go by in the pool. When I jump into that pool I feel free, weightless and powerful. I swim at work with some of my colleagues and I value our time together and feel such a strong kinship with these people.

Im off for winter break, and I found myself a little lost and concerned about not being in the pool for 2 weeks, so I went out and found a pool that I can use a punch pass for instead of a monthly membership. I have a free pool, I don't want to pay a monthly membership, so I was looking for something that fit. I had to get into the system and while I waited I noticed they had a program called "Swim the 14ers." Being from Colorado I was intrigued by this program. I took an info sheet and found more information.

The program asks you to track your swimming and every 300 meters that you swim you check off a box and after 15 boxes it's equivalent to one 14er. For me that would take a little more than two workouts to swim a 14er. I love this idea and started the very next day. I can't wait to successfully climb my first 14er. This fitness challenge is perfect for me on so many levels and I am so excited that I had to share it with all of you. So, has anyone else found something similar that worked for them?

No, I haven't found any challenges for swimming. Is it online or only local. I am a swimmer. Like you, I absolutely love swimming! I am also the leader of the SP team, Senior Olympics Ready- Set-Go! It is for swimmers 55 and up that want to compete in the Senior Olympic games in the U.S. Since I have taken on the responsibility of being leader I see there's not much interest on SP at least for this age group. I'm thinking of changing the venue and redesign it for members interested in any swim competition, not just the Senior Olympics in general and change the age requirements to any age. If you like you can check it out. Maybe you have an idea or two that might be handy.

I put in a request on SP for there to be a swimming challenge. Alas, no go. If you want to join me in a challenge I can set one up on my forum or we can set up races. . I think it would be fun! :)

Thanks for your blog. Your challenge sounds great! Wish there was one here like that :)
