What are you buying?

Wednesday, December 16, 2015

It seems with the food choices we have available now, knowing how and what to eat to be healthy is a thing of the past. Today, man-made ingredients, preservatives, and artificial coloring are in most items on the shelves.

I watched a documentary that showed Nestle going into poorer, developing countries and marketing junk food as affordable calories. This is in areas were malnourishment was an issue and now obesity and related illnesses are what they deal with and even though they are getting more calorie, they are not getting proper nourishment. It is sickening what they do because of greed.

But as long as people buy what they say and sell, they will keep making it and selling it. However, there seems to be a shift in what people want to buy and I am seeing more and more products on the shelves where it is possible to actually read the ingredients. I am making it a point to read the labels and if it has too many "not made in nature", I put it back on the shelf. After all, the industry will produce what we buy.

I cast my vote with my $$$. I, too, am a label reader. Looked at a natural peanut butter yesterday that had added sugar. It was cane sugar. But, sugar is sugar and those are empty calories my body does not need. Just the peanuts please. Back on the shelf it went.
