Almost the end of the year...

Well, it is almost the end of the year and tis the season of sugary junk food. I was tempted to make the family favorite cookies this year because my mom is not able to; but I have decided not to do so because of the ingredients: shortening, white flour and sugar.
If I was eating healthy all year, then to allow it for a celebration would be different. However, it seems that I have been eating celebration foods way too often. So, I am not going to make them. For that reason and the fact that once I start eating them I cannot stop and I eat way too many in one sitting. So by not baking them, I have a small sense of control.
I have a goal weight that I am less than 5 pounds to meet by the end of the year. I am not sure if I will make it because I did not give it serious effort until just this past week. UGH! What was I thinking?!
So, I am attempting to not eat as much junk and trying to snack on veggies. Trying to get my hubby to not eat at restaurants every time we go some where. It is like getting in the car is a trigger for him.
Also to help me reach my goal, I set an exercise goal of 500 calories. The easiest way for me to reach that is using our recumbent bike. I challenge myself with each workout, trying for particular mileage for 1/2 hour, 3/4 hour and 1 hour workouts. It is a game I play and it keeps it interesting for me.
Last night I chose the radom workout and did what the machine had ~ I surprised myself by making it through the whole workout and the levels it had; considering 9 were at the highest level and the time I had was 4 minutes at each level. That made 36 minutes at the hardest to pedal (level 16) and I did it without feeling like I was going to die and managed to keep it above 10 mph speed. I am feeling accomplished! When we first got the machine, I was not able to do level 10 for more than 30 seconds and that was years ago. I have gotten stronger as I aged. WhooHoo!
