I believe in jokes
What kind of key can open a banana?
Every day there is a light hearted moment in my class where a joke is shared. 15 year old Nick(not his real name) has Down's syndrome and speech difficulties. He needs help with social interactions. A daily joke gives him a reason to talk with friends and family. People will ask him,"Nick, what's today's joke?" These funny moments are put on the family refrigerator and revisited often.
Last year a relative from far away for a visit. Nick told him joke after joke after joke.
Humor is serious business to a young man who wants to be a part of conversations.
I believe in laughter, in love and connections.
