Enjoying a warm sunny weekend -just before the next snow & cold

Sunday, November 15, 2015

It was a gorgeous day of sun and up to mid-sixties temperatures. I did some housework and decluttering early, while it warmed up outside. I was supposed to take my newest kitty for shots, even brought the cat carrier inside 2 days ago to keep them from getting nervous, but to no avail. The cats all hid under furniture and I finally, after nearly an hour trying to catch little Bridget kitty, had to call the Vet's and cancel the appointment.

Soon after, a friend who'd offered several weeks ago to bring his chain saw to help me cut out some dead stuff showed up at my front door. We spent over 2 hours cutting out things in trees that had not recovered after the extreme cold in the Polar Vortex that hit a year ago. I also put in another hour cutting up the branches we'd removed into lengths no more the 2 and a half feet as required for my composting bin, which I totally filled!

Sunday our weather is predicted to be the same, but they're predicting a front to move in Monday afternoon bringing rain turning to snow as it gets colder. I'm going to try to do some yard work tomorrow, to get out in the sun and fresh air, because winter is coming and they are talking about another spate of snow and cold likely to arrive Friday for next weekend. I am not really looking forward to that. I have a corner house with LOTS of sidewalk to shovel and I have two sets of neighbors in their 90s I often shovel for as well. That's a lot of work. Good exercise, as long as it isn't too deep or too wet and heavy. I'll be pleased if we get a couple storms with a few inches of snow each time. What really stinks is when I'm out with the snow shovel and teenage boys walk down the middle of the street just hanging out and going to a friends house. They almost NEVER come around looking for a chance to make money by shovelling snow anymore - or they come when there are only a few inches of light, fluffy snow and ask for outrageous amounts of money for what will take me all of 20 minutes.

Oh well - I can look forward to a few snow shovel exercise routines in the coming week or so and I'll get plenty of exercise minutes in as a result. Look at the bright side - right?

Sorry kitty was too scared to go to the vet. But great job getting all that tree trimming done!
So sorry about the snow and cold coming your way. We've been quite lucky in that our temps went to freezing during the night, but is rebounding to 60 in the daytime! Rain coming, but no threat of snow yet. Hope we might not have to endure the cold, wet, white stuff this year. We actually have had snowless winters in the past. The problem then is usually ice. Ok, so now I think about it, maybe snow is not so bad if we can avoid ice and freezing rain! lol
I know, right? Kids don't want to do some honest work for honest money anymore. Really sad. And right now, our neighborhood kids are mostly little girls! hehe (Emphasis on the little, as you and I know, girls can work hard, too!)
Take care and good luck with whatever comes your way! (Hope you can get your kittie to the vet and get those shots! )
