Almost everywhere I look I see articles letting me know that dairy is "horrible" for you. They say things like, "The only reason for dairy is to help a baby calf grow into a big, fat, cow."
I bought into it for a while. I switched to almond milk. I got rid of cheeses. All well and good.
I really missed my plain greek yogurt. My lovely, creamy, 100 calorie snack. Not flavored. Just YUM!
Then I realized that I was truly not being as smart as I like to think I am.
There are always going to be "food trends."
This is the current most fashionable trend. Dairy is today what fat was in the '80s, and carbs were in the '90s.
It's all ridiculous if you ask me.
I still enjoy the unsweetened almond milk. It was a great addition to my diet, but need not be a replacement for anything else! I use it to make my oatmeal. It's wonderful and at 30 calories per cup as opposed to 90 for a cup of nonfat milk it is a winner.
I don't love cheese/ It has relatively no nutritional value. I can do without it... especially since I can have a little bit of lactose intolerance.
I do not have lactose intolerance symptoms from my yummy plain Fage 0% or 2% yogurt!! Yay!!! I now have one of my favorite snacks back.
Moral: There is no single food that is either "all bad" or "all good" for EVERYONE!!! Figure out what works for you. Exercise moderation in your choices. Be smart. Don't believe everything you read just because some self appointed expert or celebrity says it's so.
AND... Just because there is a correlation between a certain food and a certain "something" does not imply that the food caused the "something."
