Feeling a little defeated

As some of you know I am having a Sciatica issue that I am seeing a Physical therapist for .
For the last couple of months I have been forcing myself to go on my daily walks, in pain I muddled through them every day .
My PT states that he doesn't want me to walk outside right now, and suggested a treadmill walk , I took a 10 minute walk the other day , and that night I was in pain .
I told the PT, and he suggested I stick to a strength routine .
I have lost thirty two pounds , and right now I am feeling defeated, I want to feel better , I want to go to Zumba , and honestly I want to RUN , but right now I cant even walk without being in pain .
Any advice on the strength exercises for me?
Any lower body strength like squats or lunges are not possible right now .
Need to concentrate on upper body strength .
