Gained 12 pounds!!!

Don't get too excited. I had a Congestive Heart Failure episode and gained 12 pounds over four days. I am not sure what I ate but it must have been loaded with sodium. Matt and I both pondered over what it could have been. I put down everything I eat and I was never over 1500 mg of sodium for any day and most of the days I was way under 1000 mg. There must have been something hidden or my body just rebelled on me. Anyway, I was a sick chick...couldn't breathe, freezing to death, horrendous headache and felt just awful. One night in the hospital and high doses of diuretics and I am getting back to some stage of normal again. My cardiologist and kidney doctor are at odds because of the medications, but I can't have this fluid build up around my heart and lungs. So far, since Monday I have lost 8 of the 12 pounds. Peeing like a race horse. I can't go anywhere. I haven't been to the pool all week. I doubt they would appreciate me peeing in the pool. *grin*. And now, I am beginning to feel week.

People, my point in writing this is: Watch your sodium. Sure you think diet soda is good because there are few or no calories. But the sodium is what will kill you. If you cut out the salt in your diet in no time you won't miss it. Your body will thank you for it. Your heart will thank you for it.

I thought I would be good the other day and get a nice chef salad...no dressing. It had tons of greens of all sorts, tomatoes, celery, carrots, tomatoes, cheese, cucumber, egg, pepper, mushroom, some sprouts and slices of chicken, turkey and beef. I flipped it over to check out the nutritional value. There were only 220 calories in it but there were 1850 mg of sodium!!!!. In a salad!!!!! What the devil!!! The sodium was in the tiny pieces of chopped chicken, turkey and beef. And we were all taught that chicken and turkey are good for us, right? Not when it is deli meat. So, please, please, watch your deli meats. Read your labels.

You do need some sodium, but not that much. Throw away the salt shaker. Get out the garlic, ginger, thyme. And did you know that hot spices such as chili, cayenne etc can boost your metabolism? It's true. Mix it up.
