Sometimes I Really Struggle With My Eating......

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

With all of the pain and anxiety that I have been experiencing, sometimes I really struggle with my eating. Most of what I put in my mouth is clean and healthy. I will give myself credit for that. I do well getting at least five servings of fruit and veggies. This is another positive. My biggest issue is pain and anxiety in the evenings. I try to eat anti inflammatory foods, do relaxation techniques, seek counseling, do physical therapy exercises and stretches, use rewards, drink water, get lots of sleep and pamper myself occasionally. Still, the acute phase of my injuries really gets to me if nothing is working. Yes I have pain medication (I am allergic to aspirin and NSAIDS) but I am afraid of becoming dependent on it and.... I have a very limited amount left from when I broke my arm in July. I have caught myself reaching for sweets over the last week or two. I have allowed myself some treats and have used them sparingly. However, it is becoming a nightly struggle as to how I want to manage my pain. My usual chronic pain isn't this issue here. It is the recent acute pain that brings with it suffering, tears and struggling to cope. I am thinking that when I talk with the doctor tomorrow, I will let him know how I am struggling with the pain and see if he can offer a solution. Who knows, maybe he will be able to fix the acute issues. I can only hope!

Sugar increases the feel good chemicals in the brain, so for a very short period of time it does make you feel better, then it makes you crave more sugar. That's why sugar is so addictive. However, the long range effects of sugar increase inflammation and actually make the situation worse. That is why I try to avoid it. Thanks everyone for all of your supportive comments.

Does sugar really alleviate pain or just compensate you for having to deal with pain? Ask your doc.
