My 8th Sparkversary.

Monday, October 12, 2015

Sometimes I wonder why I'm still here, but then I remind myself if I hadn't stayed here all these years, I'd probably be about 314# instead of the 214# I started at back on October 12, 2007. That was horrible for me to be that fat. My back hurt so bad. So, this past year, I'm once again not at my goal, but I'm at 161# and I've actually stayed down here around the 160# level for the past four months. For me that is good. I haven't been below 160# in 25 years. So I know it is a "set point" area. I will get more fat off, as I'm determined. I went to the doctor's and had blood work done, so I'm needing to go back and find out the results. I don't want to get Type 2 Diabetes. I know I have Metabolic Syndrome. I've learned a lot from Jason Fung M.D. on YouTube.
So, this year I remember Og Mandino's quote: “There is an immeasurable distance between late and too late.”
I'm happy my son, Nathan is now 31 and remains a cancer survivor. He still wants to go to medical school. He has a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia U. in NYC, so he knows he can get through the work. Having the cancer just made him look at life from a completely different view point.

Nathan will make a very heartening, inspiring doctor, JIBBIE! I wish him much success in the pursuit(s) of his choice. And *you*, too, are a real source of inspiration to us! I'm over a month late in wishing you a happy 8th SparkVersary!! emoticon

emoticon Congrats on taking off and keeping off so many pounds.

So glad your son is doing well. I would think he would make an excellent physician as he has experienced it himself as a patient. His current profession has the possibility of making a difference in so many people's lives but would not see this directly. Whichever path he takes best wishes.

I agree. 65 is just a number. At our 50th class reunion this year I would use the word kids when talking about classmates and we were definitely past that moniker. Age is a matter of attitude.

Congrats on the anniversary, sounds like SP has been a big help in working towards your goals ... believe me when I say you are an inspiration for a "slacker" like me.

I hope to get back on track and stay there this time.

    Thanks for sharing.

Most importantly, I'm happy to hear Nathan is doing so well! That would be great if he could go to med school :)

Yeah, it's funny about being on SP so long...I do find myself gaining every time I leave...you've done a great job. It is not a sprint. You're at 161 and that is fantastic, not so shabby! I've been a member of SP about as long as you have. You're inspiring me to be able to write a similar blog in a few years instead of still being almost 40 pounds heavier than when I started! Keep inspiring!

Wow, so many amazing things to celebrate in this blog.

First, so wonderful that your son is a cancer survivor. So wonderful!

And second, wow! You lost over 50 pounds! You are *amazing*! You should be so proud of yourself. I know you're not at your target yet, but you have done so well in improving your health already!

And third, wow again - you raised a very bright young man! Good luck to him in pursuing a career in medicine!

There are just so many things to cheer about here! emoticon emoticon

That's an MIRACLE that Nathan is a cancer survivor and now he wants to help others! My mom is a 7 year cancer survivor and I'm just shouting as loud for Nathan as I did for her! emoticon

Now, look at you go, with your weight DECREASING!!! It's such a wonderful feeling to celebrate these moments with my friends. Just emoticon and you'll be at goal, before too long!

    Blessings!

Loved this blog!! I'm so glad you stayed too because I have been around almost as long as you have and there are not that many of us dinosaurs left. LOL. We have something to teach the younger spark crowd that only we can - longevity. We have toughed it out, we have stayed. We haven't reached our goal but we haven't quit. We haven't given up. We are better for it. Happy sparkversary and many, many more!
