Another big setback with the hemoglobin, transfusion yesterday

Friday, October 09, 2015

Had another set back again with the hemoglobin levels. On Monday, 9/28, it was at 10; when it was checked again this past Tuesday, it was down to 8.2, that is quite a drop within about a week.

I started not feeling so good over the weekend, but I really didn't expect that my hemoglobin was dropping so fast at the time. I managed to make it the monthly lunch out with the friends I use to work with, but I was so worn out from it, I slept for almost 4 hours after I got home.

Mel, (short for Melody), my hospice nurse, came over on Tuesday to check my blood counts. I found out late that night my hemoglobin was at 8.2, so it's no wonder I was feeling so crappy. Mel started on Wednesday morning arranging for me to have a blood transfusion for Thursday, but there was a mix up between the doctor's office and the hospital and to make a long story short, it took Mel a lot of phone calls to get it scheduled (Until around 9am yesterday, I wasn't sure if I could still get it that day, or have to wait til today, and I'm sure at the rate it was dropping that yesterday morning it was probably below 8.

Anyway, the hospital called me a little after 9am and said they were ready for me as soon as I could get there. I had to wait for a ride, so it was close to 10am when I got there. I got back home around 5pm last night. It was a long day, but today I am feeling better.

Obviously though, the time I can go in between transfusions is getting shorter; it had been every 4 weeks; this time, it was barely 3 weeks from the one I had last month.

I want to thank everyone again for the messages, Spark goodies, and birthday wishes. I'm afraid I'm still behind on all my online stuff and it's going to take me awhile to catch up, but I will try my best.

I've been gone from Spark People for several months, but hurried to Shari's page to see how she was doing. It is with a sad heart to learn that she has passed away. She was so brave and never complained, always positive during her hard times. I'm sure she's with her mom and dad smiling down on all her friends. RIP Shari.

    Dearest Shari,

I am so sorry you are having a rough go of it with your hemoglobin being down and so low, it is totally understandable that you were not feeling well, but am happy your oncology nurse arranged a transfusion for you, & of course I am so happy you are feeling much better today.

I also wanted you to know you were being thought of today as always and my prayers are with you, you never have to worry about catching up, what is important is for you to take care of "you"...the bottom line is you are so loved and cared for by us all here on SP, you are such an inspiration to us all, thank you for your continued support and friendship in which I we thank God.... Sending you Love & BIG Hugs.. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Shari. I'm happy to hear that they're still giving you transfusions. I remember that was a worry you had, that hospice wouldn't allow transfusions. It's good to know too that people who donate blood are helping people like you to have a better quality of life. Hang in there!

    Dear Shari,
I am sorry you were getting fatigued again and your haemoglobin was dropping like it did. It's no wonder you were feeling poorly. I'm glad Melody was on hand to organise the transfusion - and also that you have her to do the things like making all those phone calls rather than having to do that, which would only result in stress and more fatigue. It's wonderful that you could catch up with your workmates. I know the feeling and experience of needing to sleep straight after an outing or activity.

As others have said, no need to worry about what you can keep up with as it's more important to conserve energy for the things you need and want to do on a daily basis, like this lunch. In that respect I apologise for not getting to this blog earlier as I have had a busy month with appointments and fatigue has overtaken me as well. Take good care of yourself and like many others, my thoughts and prayers are with you always my dear friend.

Sending many hugs, blessings and much love,
    Nattacia

I am sorry I missed your birthday, I have been out of it lately and barely sparking. I hope you had a nice one.

Sorry your counts went down so fast. It is good your hospice nurse was helpful and was able to make calls for you to finally get the transfusion.

As always you are always in my thoughts and prayers.

Shari you are not required to catch up on anything. When you feel up to it... you'll get it done. We miss you, when you're quiet. We're very glad to see you're spending time with (non-cyber) friends. emoticon
God & your guardian angels are looking after you. Sometimes, you may not feel that way. You have so many people praying for you. I hope you know, when you think of us, we're thinking of you.
You & I only met (on SP) about a year ago. I knew from the 1st moment how special you are. You may not know the lessons you have taught (me) & dozens of others.
You are a powerful spirit. You are always in my heart.

I am glad that Melody was able to get things arranged for you. I was happy that she has a happy name. My helpers name is Joy and I love having her come and saying her name always brightens me up. She is being a caregiver and has colon cancer. Like you she is an amazing lady. I hope that you have a relief from the fatigue for a bit and wish you many spoons to carry you through. emoticon
