Don't Be Part of the Silent Majority!

Tuesday, October 06, 2015

I'm becoming quite vehement on animal rescue. Something is wrong with seeing pictures of beautiful animals who have absolutely nothing wrong with them but are about to be destroyed because no one wants them. They didn't ask to be bred, anymore than all the unwanted children in the world. We can't stop humans from reproducing [shame, that] but we can make life so difficult for breeders they go out of business.

In Tyler, Texas this week, a slug dumped 8 small dogs at the shelter, obviously part of the same litter[s]. Cute little dogs, three already adopted. Literally thousands of dogs, hundreds of thousands even, not to mention kittens, are born because humans are just so damn sorry! Only public opinion and public humiliation of breeders can bring about the changes in law that put them out of business.

Share your local shelters' Facebook posts with friends and reach hundreds of potential dog parents! Give whenever and whatever you can to support spay/neuter clinics. Even small amounts will help! Thanks for your support!

I completely agree with you on this issue--and not just because the neighbors here seem to be encouraging a feral cat population. Where are those animals going to go when it's twenty below (Fahrenheit) here?

We're fortunate - although our shelter is not a "no kill" shelter, we are such an animal-loving town that we've only needed to euthanize animals with cancers or other illnesses that have progressed beyond treatment. We subsidize those who want to spay/neuter their animals. We're a community that will call or simply pick up an animal that we see running loose rather than take a chance on it getting hit. Unfortunately folks often don't have the financial resources to take care of their animals, which results in even MORE being born. Frustrating!
