The Painful Gift

Divorce can be a painful gift
Good things are not always easy things. My divorce was the most painful thing that I went through in my life, but the needful, and therefore a good thing. I was married to a good man with a bad alcoholic problem. We have two wonderful sons who are now strong men who are happily married.
I had to learn to stop codependent behavior. I thought that I was being a good Christian wife by supporting my husband, when actually; I was making him a weaker man by not allowing him to learn to stand on his own two feet, and take responsibility for his actions. He is better off without me, and I am stronger without him.
I have learned how to trust God and let go of gifts that are not mine to keep. I know that God hates divorce, and I hate it too. When needed, it is a good but painful gift.
