Me? An athlete??

"If you have trained well and perform your very best that day, then you are a beautiful and passionate athlete." Julie Isphording, Olympic marathoner
What an inspiring quote from an article on spark this morning! I'm one of those who was a klutz growing up... more "band geek" than "star athlete" for sure. There wasn't a sport I played, and gym class confounded me. I sometimes ran, because it was my dad's passion, and I could do it solo, privately, with no one watching or judging. But really never even stuck with running for long... there were too many other things to do in high school! (Choir, art, band, theater...)
Anyway, I've recently returned to jogging at age 42, and discovered an unexpected joy. I don't run more than a couple days a week (my legs can't take it!)... and I still run/walk (though I've graduated to almost all running - woot!)... I would definitely NEVER have ventured to call myself an athlete, even in the private recesses of my imagination.
But to think of myself in that way... ATHLETE, strong and beautiful and passionate... is so powerful! I think that's one of the places I'm heading on this journey and feeling like I have permission (from an Olympian, no less) to think of myself in this new and powerful way is... well, it's just cool! Made my day! Made me look at myself in a new light.
And that, after all, is really what this journey is all about.
